@martye It wouldn’t take much to put up a small piece of black cardboard and doing so can save you hours of work in post processing.
Off the top of my head, I can see using something like a lightweight Manfrotto Nano light stand:

I think @loki has the right idea. Like Beth, I haven’t used the burn tool in a long time, at it’s much easier to layers and layer masks to be more precise.
IMHO, since you’re already crossing the ethical threshold of heavily manipulating the image, it would be a LOT easier to do one of the following:
