After reading all of this garblygoop, I mean in depth explanations, I still agree with caimi, Some photo look better with a black border.
No matter what other well know Photographer have done in the past a photo and its border is an expression of the photographer.
I haven’t read any other comments about the photo, so good job caimi and keep the border. -

I do think the horse and rider are balanced. Head down back straight. I don’t like the tree in the foreground
and the sign drags my attention. I also like the black border, I do the same sometimes. -

I am a horse owner and photographer and it sounds like you are as well. He was really trying to get to my horse that was put close to draw his attention. I never saw the gravel or that the color blended thanks I’ll watch out for that.

I don’t have Photo Shop all my work is shot in RAW and the post processed with Nikon Capture NX2. I am working on watching the ISO usually it is high for the ring work when the horses are moving. And yes this shot is intended to show the achievement of the rider. Thanks for your comments.

I am new to this type of Photography, I usually do equine photos and by the sound of the coments I should stick with that. I didn’t realize that one photo would cause a culture melt down!

The photo is in focus on my end. I did use Nikon Capture NX2 in post processing and it appears that when it was converted to a jpeg it lost something. I will have to do more research on this problem.

I wanted to show that she was on a dock, but didn’t realize that it was taking away from the shot. Possibly increase the apatuer to blur the house in the back.
