It just takes practice. Some people like the grungy hdr look but I prefer the more natural look. You don’t have to use hdr software for it to be hdr. In fact most pictures are hdr in some way. Sunset landscapes are perfect for HDR There is no way the camera can capture the scene as you see it it one shot. Here are a couple of my examples.

I think it’s a bit unfair to say any landscape photographer worth their salt will have a split grad. I am able to do it without one and I don’t think I’m too shabby of a landscape photographer.

If you have Photoshop I would lower the exposure and rotate it to the left so it isn’t sloping to the right. Otherwise I think it could be a nice picture, good slow shutter with the water.Check It Out
