Thanx to David Chesterfield for suggesting this throwdown ( @dchester1001 ).
Although you’ll probably find ‘Twirling’ fun to experiment with, you may also find that, depending on your choice of original image, it is not as easy as depicted to get a decent result.
Here’s the link David posted on how to Twirl in PS…

David makes it look easy…. and as he suggested for the throwdown, here’s a before and after… (and after)

I tried it also and agree fun to play with but not quite as easy as it sounds.

Also posted this one under abstract challenge. The before is a waterlily surrounded by lily pads

Allows Edits? YesVery nice Robert. The second image looks like the head of a monstrous fly! Surprising what you can come up with, using the twirling technique.

Wow, I’m usually not fond of abstract art but I must say, the results above are amazing! I think the difficulty in all of this is to know where to stop! 😉

These are all really cool- every last one of them! They remind me of artwork created with the “Spirograph” (if anybody besides me remembers that toy).

Allows Edits? YesWow that looks great Robert. Did you use some different settings than those described in the tutorial to get the orb effect?

Allows Edits? YesTo Create the preceding pic using Photoshop.
I didn’t use the pixelate filter as described in the tutorial as use of the art filter had already produced a grainy photo. I also skipped the radial blur, which you could still do if you wanted to, and went straight to the twirl distort.
Then using a square selection in each corner, one at a time, I applied the twirl filter within the selection.
After creating a duplicate layer I simply flipped it horizontally and blended it using the lighten mode.
Adjusted clarity to pull out more detail.
Then to create the sphere I used the 3D filter, new mesh from layer, mesh preset, sphere.
that will produce a floating sphere on a blank background, then after adjusting the view a bit as well as lighting and angle plane in the 3D panel, I blended it with the original Photo. You could follow the twirl creation tutorial creation directly all the way to the sphere creation step if so desired or mix things up any way you wish.

Allows Edits? YesYeah Rob, I saw Eyes a mouth with teeth, and a nose, all completely unplanned. That’s what I like about this process, for the most part what you end up with is a surprise.
